How it works

Scope 2, in one minute.

Scope 2 emissions come from the electricity you buy. Listed companies report them in BRSR (Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting), SEBI's sustainability disclosure. This calculator applies India's official grid emission factor to your use, and shows what switching to on-site solar would avoid.

  • Uses the CEA (Central Electricity Authority) grid factor, which you can edit.
  • Gives ready text you can adapt for your report.
  • Shows the cut from sourcing part of your power from solar, with zero investment.
Questions

Good to know.

What are Scope 2 emissions?

Indirect greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity, heat or steam a company buys. For most Indian businesses, grid electricity is the main source.

Which emission factor should I use?

This tool uses the Central Electricity Authority all-India weighted average of 0.710 tCO2 per MWh for FY 2024-25 (CO2 Baseline Database v21.0). Your reporting team should confirm the factor for your filing.

Does on-site solar reduce Scope 2?

Yes. Every unit you take from on-site solar instead of the grid reduces the grid electricity behind your Scope 2 figure.
